Ukraine seeks to produce 4.1 million tonnes of soybean in 2015
Soybean production in Ukraine could be raised by 5% to around 4.1 million tonnes in 2015, according to the country's agriculture ministry.
For the last two years, Ukrainian soy cultivations had seen a significant increase due to higher profitability, and areas sown in 2015 had expanded from 1.8 million hectares last year, to 2.1 million hectares.
A portion of Ukrainian soy volume may also be delivered to China. Ukraine hopes to expand the list of permitted commodities to China by including soymeal. In fact, during July, Chinese delegates visited soy crushing plants in Ukraine, said Oleksiy Pavlenko, the country's agriculture minister.
86,383 tonnes of soymeal was exported from Ukraine during September 2013 to August 2014. This volume is overtaken by the current season's volume of 156,397 tonnes, UkrAgroConsult said.
